They are on the endangered red list ... there used to be around 30million in the UK ...
Now it is estimated at just under a million ...

Our new Precious Charity - it is official !!!!
Working in your studio can be a lonely place, creativity is such a rollercoaster .....
Having a studio at home often makes your bed look a very welcoming place - especially with the British summer weather ....
so .... volunteering helps your head !! ...
So I (Lynne Speake) started volunteering at a local family run rescue for hedgehogs based in Cornwall ....
(I blame Mark Mcleish !!)
I can't bring hedgehogs home like I would have done had it been dogs or puppies ...
The charity would probably notice if I tried to swop them for fir cones - even if I stuck on googly eyes !!!!
I didn't even rate Hedgehogs that much ...
Till one day ... after rescuing a couple of hedgehog babies stuck in a tyre in the field next to my home ...
I was in love !! ..
... and now I and my home seem to be a magnet for the prickly cute ones !!!

Hedgehogs .... What to watch out for ...
If you see a hedgehog out in the day please ring your nearest rescue or vets ...
They will probably have something wrong with them - it is always worth checking ... even if they look OK
If they look like they have sawdust at the base of their prickles this is flystrike and they need urgent medical help ASAP
(in the UK the public will not be charged for taking wildlife to a vet)
Do not keep a hedgehog and try to nurse it ...
They often have complicated medical needs which are not visible or obvious -
Please always seek proper medical advice ...
